ABOUT BILLY LORD
Because Billy's father was a professional football coach, Billy’s family moved from Chicago, Illinois to Winston Salem, North Carolina to Greensboro, North Carolina to Boone, North Carolina to Amherst, Massachusetts to Green Bay, Wisconsin to Upper Saddle River, New Jersey. Out of necessity, he learned to adapt to new situations.
As might be expected, Billy had a great interest in athletics - especially football! In high school he was co-captain of both the football and gymnastics teams. He earned a football scholarship to Liberty University and went on to become an NAIA academic All-American. He graduated ?magna cum laude? in 1983 with a degree in business administration.
Billy's musical talents became apparent at an early age. He loved singing with the family when his mom played the piano at home. By age 13, Billy began playing the guitar. Soon he was singing for his church and youth group. Shortly after he began playing the guitar, Billy tried his hand at writing music. While living in Green Bay, Wisconsin, he won a national song writing contest sponsored by the Baptist General Conference. Billy continued his musical development while in college. He often sang in chapel and was heavily involved in the Men of Armor - an outreach program of the football team. The Men of Armor would go to public high schools and perform weight lifting demonstrations. After the demonstration, Billy would sing and others would share their testimonies.
Since 1983, Billy has had the opportunity to sing for thousands of people throughout the United States. While he has worked primarily with high school students, Billy's music reaches a wide range of people. He has shared the stage with such speakers as Tony Campolo, Josh McDowell, Buster Soaries, Barry St. Clair and Andy Stanley. He has also appeared with other musicians such as Geoff Moore and the Distance, Truth, Jerome Olds, and Mark Lowry. Billy’s unique blend of original music, along with his ability to lead praise and worship, has made him a favorite with many youth ministries throughout the country. Depending on the occasion, Billy appears either by himself or with his band.
